This week’s lunch time seminar was led by FCL researchers Felix Heisel, Martha Kolokotroni, Michaela Frances Prescott, Kashif Shaad, Marta Wisniewska, and Naomi Hanakata. Their presentation was titled, ‘Preparing Food. Today.’
Abstract
In 2052 there will be 9 billion people living on earth, the majority in cities.
With a recipe book Preparing Food. Today., and a ‘happening’ presented for the Venice Biennale 2012, we propose a change in attitude towards available resources, as a possible solution to fill the prognosticated gap between production and demand.
Diversification, here discussing the issues of ingredients and food preparation, will be an essential step towards sustainable, livable future cities.
We will face determining challenges such as energy and water shortages and securing three healthy, nutritious, filling meals per day for all seven billion inhabitants of our Future Cities, and especially their Hinterlands.
Preparing Food. Today. gives an overview of recipes in the world of 2052, regardless of the region it will be used in and suggests an range of alternative preparation methods. With Preparing Food. Today. we will get a taste of future cities.
