FCL Seminar on Public Transport Planning

2 Nov 2012
Value Lab Asia, CREATE Tower Level 6
4pm- 6pm

Being the most cost and space efficient transport solution in an urban context, public transport will remain the mobility backbone of future cities. The challenge will be to plan, design and operate public transport systems to meet future mobility demands while catering for changing user expectations. Due to the typically long-term planning horizon of public transport infrastructure, careful system design and accurate evaluation of future urban scenarios are of central importance in the planning process. In this seminar, we will explore how the interplay of long-term planning, optimal operation design and latest simulation models can improve public transport services.

We start with a presentation by Dr Prodyut Dutt (Head of Policy, Planning and Research Division, Land Public Transport Commission Malaysia) on the development of the most recent Transport Masterplan for Kuala Lumpur / Klang Valley Region. Dr Dutt’s talk will provide insights about long term planning and implementation of major transport infrastructure in a dynamic urban context. In the second talk, Dr Alejandro Tirachini (Institute of Transport and Logistics Studies, University of Sydney) will present a new approach to optimally design the operation of urban bus services. We will conclude with an assessment by Dr Alex Erath (Future Cities Laboratory, Singapore ETH Centre) how the latest agent-based transport modelling tools can improve both long-term planning and operational optimisation.

We look forward to welcoming you on Friday, 2nd Nov 2012, 4 pm at ValueLab Asia, Floor 6, CREATE Tower, Singapore 138602. After the talks, refreshments will be served, providing an opportunity for further discussion and exchange.

The seminar is open to public and free of charge. If you would like to attend, please register by 31st October at http://bit.ly/Y60EKx.
